Following Your Feet 👣

When facing decisions and changes in life, it is common for people to tell you to follow your heart. But sometimes the heart can be confused or corrupted in some way, and it can be better to instead follow your feet.

When you have spent a lifetime making plans, preparing for the future, and being responsible and sensible, the idea of simply ending up where you end up can be daunting. This approach requires faith and a trust that somewhere between your own intentions and those of the universe, you will find yourself in the place you are meant to be.

“A good traveller has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.”
[Lao Tzu]

Following your feet goes beyond the usual “living one day at a time”. It is one moment at a time, one step at a time, and one encounter at a time.

“One of the most important steps on our journey is the one in which we throw away the map. In jettisoning the grids and brambles of our own preconceptions, perhaps we are better able to find the real secrets of each place.”
[Loreena McKennitt]

No longer can you consider the future consequences of each available choice. No longer should you look to the horizon. You need to simply close your eyes, let the wind push you where you need to go, follow the sounds of home, and keep your faith, no matter which path you find your feet walking along.

  1. Looks like we were at the same place to me. when you get that pulling feeling in the center of your chest, it’s telling you what your mind and heart already know but they are afraid to admit. you need to be somewhere else in your life.

  2. In the last year, my friend made a commitment to herself to live like this. It was very inspiring to me, and I have learned a great deal from her example. The engineer in me needs a plan, but the mystic in me is so drawn to this approach. Thanks for another reminder that I am more mystic than engineer these days. 🙂

    • That is my big challenge too. To move forward without a plan. Yet so often our lives go in unexpected directions, despite our plans. So those plans are really just an illusion, an excuse, and an anchor.
Don’t you hate it when you address someone elses comment and hear your answer in your own ears and realise it is the answer to the question you’ve been asking yourself all day? That’s what just happened for me here. Thank you 💞

  3. When you look at the Mountain and see the top of highest peak it all starts with one step of taking the risk of thee unknown.

So you’re bold enough to take that step then what is next? …

You take another and another not knowing your ascending until realized you have reach the mantel of the highest peak.

“Without taking the risk of the unknown you never would started a ripple affect”
